Newport Hotels for Weddings

Newport wedding hotel guide · Updated August 2026

Newport wedding hotels range from intimate mansion buyouts to full-service waterfront resorts with large ballrooms. The right choice depends on whether the hotel is also your venue, how many rooms guests need, and whether parking or transportation will shape the weekend.

Quick answer: Castle Hill Inn suits a destination weekend on Ocean Drive; The Chanler is designed for an intimate full-house celebration; Newport Harbor Island Resort handles larger waterfront events and room blocks; Gardiner House offers a modern downtown waterfront setting.

1. Castle Hill Inn

Best for: a complete coastal wedding weekend. Castle Hill occupies 40 acres at 590 Ocean Drive, with oceanfront lawns, lighthouse views, beach settings and luxury accommodations. Official information describes celebrations from intimate ceremonies to alfresco events for up to 250, plus on-site planning support and lodging.

The inn has also promoted a multi-night “40 Acre Experience” centered on a 33-room buyout. Treat any buyout as a custom proposal because dates, inclusions and minimums change. Arrange shuttles for off-site guests and downtown after-parties. Official wedding information.

2. The Chanler at Cliff Walk

Best for: a highly personal luxury buyout. The Chanler’s 20 guest rooms sit above the Atlantic. Weekend weddings are full-house experiences requiring a two-night stay and all 20 rooms. Official venue information lists indoor celebrations up to 100 guests, the Terrace up to 80, Meadow Lawn up to 140 and Cliff Lawn with terrace and indoor space up to 200.

Parking is limited to about 35 vehicles, and full-size 50-passenger buses cannot fit through the gates. Use trolleys or mini coaches. The hotel manages on-property details but expects couples to hire a qualified planner for broader logistics. Current Chanler event terms.

3. Newport Harbor Island Resort

Best for: a large waterfront wedding with substantial hotel infrastructure. The Goat Island resort offers lighthouse and Newport Bridge views, outdoor spaces and ballrooms. Its published chart lists the full Beacon Ballroom for up to 600 banquet guests.

The wedding-block inquiry currently references blocks of 10–15 rooms, rates quoted up to 365 days ahead, 90% attrition and a 30-day reservation cutoff; suites are excluded from the discounted block. Your signed contract controls. Official wedding spaces.

4. Gardiner House

Best for: an art-forward waterfront celebration near Thames Street. Gardiner House at 24 Lee’s Wharf combines boutique lodging with more than 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor gathering space for events up to 220. Confirm how many guests can stay on site and where overflow rooms should be blocked. Compare nearby options in our Thames Street hotel guide. Official hotel information.

5. Forty 1° North

Best for: a contemporary marina wedding in the harbor district. The property combines boutique rooms, dining and event spaces beside the marina. Ask whether your spaces are exclusive, how marina activity affects the layout, and what wet-weather backup is included. Downtown parking is constrained, so plan valet and shuttles. Compare our harbor-view hotels.

6. Hotel Viking

Best for: a traditional hotel wedding with ballrooms, guest rooms and a central Bellevue Avenue location. Request a proposal covering ballroom exclusivity, food-and-beverage minimums, block pickup, getting-ready suites, parking and accessibility. Downtown is convenient, but off-site waterfront ceremonies still require transportation. See our downtown hotel guide.

7. Atlantic Beach Hotel Newport

Best for: a practical guest block near Easton’s Beach. The hotel offers parking, an indoor heated pool and a location across from the beach. It can be a useful family base for a wedding elsewhere in Newport. Confirm building assignments, welcome-bag delivery and a safe shuttle pickup point. Compare our family-friendly hotels.

Venue, room block or buyout?

Hotel as the venue

This is simplest when ceremony, reception, lodging and breakfast happen together. Ask about rain backup, sound limits, vendor access, accessibility and which spaces remain public.

Hotel as a guest block

A block is a lodging contract. Understand the cutoff date, block size, minimum stay, taxes, resort fees, suite exclusions and attrition—the rooms you may owe for if guests do not book.

Full or partial buyout

A buyout creates privacy but may require every room for multiple nights plus event minimums. Confirm whether restaurants, lawns, bars and parking are truly exclusive.

Transportation and parking

  • Use smaller trolleys or mini coaches where historic entrances cannot accommodate buses.
  • Give guests one precise pickup location and departure schedule.
  • Budget for resort and downtown parking charges.
  • Plan an overflow hotel when on-site rooms cannot fit the guest list.
  • Confirm elevators, steps, lawn surfaces and accessible shuttle capacity.

Questions to ask before signing

  1. What are the room-block cutoff, attrition and cancellation terms?
  2. Are resort fees, parking and taxes included?
  3. When are getting-ready suites available?
  4. What is the indoor weather backup and its capacity?
  5. Which spaces remain open to other guests?
  6. Are there noise curfews, vendor restrictions or required planners?
  7. Can buses enter and stage on the property?
  8. Could construction or a marina event overlap the wedding?

Wedding planners and venue coordinators

A hotel’s event manager and your wedding planner have different jobs. The venue coordinator represents the property: they manage the hotel contract, menus, room block, access times and on-site rules. Your independent planner represents you and coordinates vendors, transportation, décor, the timeline and off-site events.

Full-service wedding planner

Best for multi-day Newport weddings, tented events, several venues or complex transportation. Full-service planning generally covers budgeting, vendor selection, design, contracts, logistics and wedding-day execution.

Partial planner or month-of coordinator

Best when most vendors are booked but someone needs to combine the plans, confirm deliveries, build the master timeline and manage the rehearsal and wedding day. Ask exactly when service begins because “month-of” packages vary.

Venue coordinator

The venue coordinator is essential, but usually does not replace an independent planner. Confirm whether the sales contact will be present on the wedding day, who directs outside vendors and who handles problems away from the hotel.

Questions for coordinators

  • Have you managed weddings at this hotel and Newport’s trolley, parking and loading restrictions?
  • Who creates and distributes the master timeline?
  • Who manages welcome parties, rehearsal dinners and farewell brunches?
  • Who owns guest transportation, weather calls and accessibility?
  • How many assistants are included, and when does coverage begin and end?
  • What is the backup if the lead planner or venue manager is unavailable?
  • Are liability insurance, travel and overtime included?
